A rather profound revelation occurred to me the other night, probably at 1:36am when I was attempting to sleep. I’ve been listening to John Waller’s song, “While I’m Waiting” (from the Fireproof soundtrack), and in it he talks about how he will “move ahead, bold and confident, taking every step in obedience–while [he’s] waiting”. So buried underneath blankets and with my face smooshed against my pillow, my little brain was contemplating these lyrics. I’ve realized I tend to spend life like I’m waiting for something BIG to happen. Like, in a few months or years or decades or so. Therefore I also tend to live more at a 75% level, as if I dare not exert all my energy until “it” happens–kinda like anticipating a party and not cranking up the music until the guests arrive. So then I live excitedly but quiet, instead of going full-out at 100% and turning everyday activities and actions into wholehearted offerings of worship to God. That’s the type of worship we should be cranking up… 🙂
So, what is it we are waiting for? (And this is in the whole scheme of the Christian life, not things everyone expects–like graduations, weddings, retirements, etc. )
We wait for the full, complete glory of God to be revealed. We wait to see Jesus face to face. We wait for a day when our mortal fat and bones will disinegrate and we will be given new bodies with new life. And while we wait to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior, we need to be living in a way that attracts other people to our salvation. We already know how the story ends, so instead of skimming through the middle chapters haphazardly, let’s focus and make them meaningful. Don’t be ashamed of that fact that your story will end happily ever after…
