Move Me (Stay Put)

This is inspired from last night’s small group discussion regarding Abraham, his faith, and letting God move us (or keep us) where He wants. We often pray for God to move us, move us, move us…and while it may be spoken from a heart earnestly seeking God…sometimes we’re already right where we need to be.

Move me, Father, move me to
The place where I can most serve You
I’m ready, Jesus, here I am!
What have You put me here to do?

My work I’ll quit, my home I’ll leave
You know it’s You I must believe
I’ll lose my friends, I’ll change my church
I’ll pack up in a frantic lurch

Just move me, Father, move me to
The place where I can most serve You!

But what, You say?
I didn’t hear
At least, I hope that You weren’t quite so clear

Don’t move, You say?
But why? I ask
Don’t I have a bigger task?

Then You beckon, silence please
Quietly I drop to my knees

I wait.
You speak.
You tell me more
You tell me what You have in store

And now I see that restlessness
Has made my ministry a mess
For I am here and I am where
You want me now, this You declare

For God, who watches Time and Space
Will not, in err, our lives misplace
And like a mastermind of chess
The King will reign–in righteousness

So now contented can I be
Since I’ve not lost Your will for me
You put me here and I can rest
Knowing You know what is best

So I’ll stay put and I won’t fret
I know that You’re not finished yet
For where You want is where I’ll be
And if You change it…

…You’ll tell me.

“The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me; Your love, O LORD, endures forever—do not abandon the works of Your hands.”
– Psalm 138:8

“Wherever you are, be all there.” – Jim Elliot
