Though Now We Weep

Tonight my heart is heavy. It’s been a long time since I’ve cried from sheer sadness.

You may have read about the toddler who was snatched by an alligator at Disney World last night. That little boy was my son’s age. I can’t imagine the grief they are experiencing. I can’t imagine losing my little boy. My heart aches for them.

I have a friend whose loved one just died. I don’t even have words for this type of loss.

And on a slightly less painful level, I’ve begun to accept that, after a week, my cat isn’t coming home.

My heart is sad.

And yet I know with clearest certainty that sorrow, however painful and deep, is temporary. On earth we shall weep, but when Jesus comes He will wipe away all the tears that stain our faces and He will cause our hearts to rejoice. Our hope is in Him, our eternal peace and refuge.

Today we shall grieve. Today we will feel the weight of death’s sorrow, and tears will flow freely.

Though now we weep, joy is coming. Our hearts will be whole again. Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal. (Crowder)

“Wait for the LORD.
Be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
– Psalm 27:14
