Blog inspirations usually don’t awaken me at five in the morning; I guess city life might be changing that.

The warm summer nights have caused me to leave the bedroom window open, to provide better air circulation. As I was lying in bed, tangled around what was left of my sheets and comforter, I could hear two men visiting while they walked along the street. Since I was only half-awake, I can’t recall now the topic of their conversation, but I do remember the sharp jolt I felt in hearing Jesus’ name spoken in a careless manner.

I’m sure the man had no idea what he’d just said, or even the slightest inclination of the power enveloped in the word.

Then it made me think: do we realize the power of Jesus’ name?

I can recall many times when I’ve spoken “Jesus” without any sort of cognizant mindset. Just to name a few:

Jesus loves me, this I know…”
“…in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
“We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!”
“…and then they asked Jesus into their heart.”
Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe…”

It humbles me greatly, when I realize the power–the omnipotence–that I haphazardly overlook every single day of my life. It’s disgraceful.

Jesus loves me. That is intense.
It’s in Jesus’ name [that] I pray. The name above all names; the name at which every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord–to His Father’s glory.
Jesus saves! I used to wonder what all He saved me from. Now I’m like, what the heck, amongst everything else He’s saved me from myself! From His wrath towards sin, from the captivity to selfish ambition, from Satan’s reign over my heart…and it’s a sure salvation.
Jesus into [our] hearts. Where He can now rule and reign and instill love into our once carnal flesh. And He’s always with us.
Jesus paid it all. I was thinking through this timeless hymn a few months ago, and the piercing revelation hit me that Jesus paid it all. Yes, it was paid, yes it was all paid…but it was paid by Jesus. Jesus Christ, the son of God. He paid it, and I couldn’t.

I know there will be days when my ignorance interrupts my reverence to the Lord, but today may it not.

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.”
– Hebrew 13:15
